AMY'S RIDE, ENTRIES NOW OPEN!

Amy's Ride

Amy's Ride South Australia - Sunday 7 November 2010

Bicycle SA and the Amy Gillett Foundation have been working together since 2008 with the objective of taking a more strategic approach to developing and promoting a number of road safety campaigns. After all, road safety is the responsibility of all road users.

In 2009, Bicycle SA endorsed the AGF's national safety campaign of A Metre Matters. Designed to raise awareness in the minds of motorists to ensure they keep at least a metre between themselves and cyclists, the sight of 3,000 jersey's winding their way down the Southern Expressway for Amy's Ride 2009 was a potent image.

With more and more South Australian's taking to their bike for the first time, we are increasingly seeing the need to encourage cyclists to reacquaint themselves with the rules of the road. While its great news that more people are riding, its now more important than ever to ensure cyclists 'share the responsibility' and ride within the law.

The Red Light is the most iconic road safety image - and we believe that the most effective follow up to the AGF's A Metre Matters campaign is one that will focus and highlight the need for cyclists to adhere to the road rules and therefore improve safety.

AGF and Bicycle SA are pleased to announce our safety message for this year's riding season is Red Aware.

For Amy's Ride 2010 we have responded to the feedback from last year's ride and will provide more choice for this year - with jerseys an optional benefit. Your registration will not only give you a fully supported ride down the Southern Expressway to the beautiful McLaren Vale, but also the chance to support the worthy regional and national initiatives of the AGF in our quest to bring about a safer, more harmonious relationship between cyclists and other road users. In a first for this year, to also assist Bicycle SA to deliver their Red Aware road safety campaign.

Sponsored by the Motor Accident Commission, we have 2,000 Red Aware jerseys available for those who would like one - first in best dressed!

And for those riders who do not want a jersey, you have peace of mind knowing that $20 of your registration fee will go direct to support the AGF, while the proceeds of your ride fee will assist Bicycle SA to roll out their Red Aware campaign throughout the year. Even if you opt for the jersey, part of your registration fee will go towards AGF's road safey campaign. Last year we raised over $70,000 for the AGF, this year we are aiming for $100,000!

So when you register, you will be asked if you would like a Red Aware jersey - if you do, please tick the box and select your jersey size. Otherwise, just continue through to the end of the registration process.

We look forward to seeing you on the road supporting the important work of the Amy Gillett Foundation and Bicycle SA

Great early bird registration prizes from Ground Effect cycle clothing up for grabs too.
